Skinny Fat: Bulk or Cut?
If you're "skinny fat"—that tricky in-between stage where you're not overweight but lack muscle—you're left with a soft, unathletic physique that doesn't quite reflect the effort you put in. I get approached by so many guys in this position, all wondering the same thing: “How do I get out of this f*cking phase? How can I put on muscle and lose this stubborn fat at the same time?” - You can’t. It’s that simple. Anyone who tells you that you can, is selling you a dream.
Whether you are enhanced or natural, the best course of action to take if you are over 16% body fat (which you most likely are if you’re still reading this), is to CUT that excess weight off as QUICKLY as possible, before anything else, them you can return back to eating more, gaining muscle and throwing around big weights in the gym again.
OK.. Let me be a bit of a nerd here and explain WHY you should cut, before doing anything else when skinny fat;
Your body is an efficient muscle-building, fat-burning machine when it is in a lean state - and this has been proven by multiple peer reviewed studies. The leaner you are, the more insulin-sensitive you are, leading to improved nutrient partitioning - which will mean more of the calories you’re eating are getting used for muscle growth and not just fat storage.
